Thinking about buying a heat pump and replacing your heating system?
How we chose and installed a heat pump for our home
Find out how a family from Split replaced their existing heating system in just a few steps and boosted their household budget by significantly cutting heating bills:
Q: Why did you choose a heat pump?
A: We decided to convert our existing heating system (oil boiler) to reduce running costs (heating and hot water) and for aesthetic reasons. We were looking for a solution so that we would no longer have to worry every year about buying, pricing and storing heating oil. The heat pump proved to be the ideal solution, giving us high energy savings and lower heating bills. It is almost silent and easy to use. The former boiler room is now tidy, with no more need for cleaning and maintenance.
Q: Which heat pump proved to be the best solution for your home?
A: Our search for a heat pump took a few weeks. We wanted to find the best long-term solution for heating, cooling and hot water, with an affordable initial investment. It was also important to have support from both the installer and the distributor.
We chose the Haier brand, represented by MB Frigo Grupa, which has 40 years of experience in air conditioning systems and a network of authorised and trained installers.
We learned about Haier heat pumps on the website www.haier-klima.com and contacted an authorised installer to advise us on choosing a model. We chose the Haier Super Aqua 16 kW for a very well insulated house with a total floor area of 300 m2 on two floors.
Q: How long did buying and installing the unit take?
A: Purchase and installation were completed within a week, followed by commissioning. The installation was carried out by an authorised installer, which gave us a 3-year warranty with regular annual maintenance. Installation was simple, as we already had a small boiler room from the previous system and could reuse some components for the new system.
Q: How satisfied are you with the unit and how much have you saved since installing the heat pump?
A: We currently use the Haier Super Aqua heat pump for heating via our existing radiators. In the future we plan to upgrade the house by installing indoor units (fan coils) and underfloor heating, which will also be connected to the heat pump.
In previous years we needed about 1,500 litres of heating oil for the heating season. At current prices we would spend about EUR 14.00 a day on heating. Out of curiosity we installed an internal meter for the heat pump and found that, depending on outdoor temperatures, we spend on average EUR 4.00 to 6.00 a day to heat a 300 m2 building. By choosing and using the Haier Super Aqua heat pump, we save about 70% energy per day compared with our previous heating system. Besides saving money, we don't pollute the environment and no longer worry about buying and storing heating oil.
